Quite an amusing day...

So I've been a little stressed the past two days. School is starting on Monday and so my nerves, as always, are a little shot. Anyway, when I get nervous I tend to forget things and I am always a lot later to appointments or anything really than I already am on a regular basis (and you know that is bad news...). However, on some occasions, particularly when I am stressed, I miraculously make it to things early. I know it's a complete contradiction than before, but like I said before... it's miraculous.

Knowing that I was stressed, all day yesterday I deliberately reminded myself over and over again that I have to be back in Auburn at 4 pm for an ACF Leadership movie. It was the last thing I wrote down on my planner, what I dreamed about, and essentially what I woke up this morning thinking about. So as I awoke to the early morning light, I immediately went into "You have to be packed and ready to go before two and you can't be late!" mode. I frantically got up, got dressed, and began packing everything. (Of course my phone is dead and the clock in my room has no batteries so I have no idea what time it is... all I know is that I may be late, because I am always late.) Then I grabbed as many bags as I could (because of course I brought home everything I owned at Christmas) and headed down the stairs. I even managed to grab Sipsi's football on the way out my door, to be prepared for her playfulness, and made my way to my car. I was feeling quite proud.

Along the way my father stepped out from his tool bench looking confused, "Where are you going he asked?" Flabbergasted at the fact that he didn't remember that I had school the next day, I gruffly replied, "I have to leave by two, Dad. I have a meeting that starts at 4 and I can't be late."
"Oh," he said, "I just didin't realize you were leaving today." I went and put the stuff in the car and quickly headed back for more.

As I left him bewildered, my mother stopped me on my way back up the stairs, "Allie, what are you doing?" Ok, at this point I am a bit frustrated with my parents. How could they not know that school starts on Monday and since it's Sunday, I had to be back? "Really, mom?" I said, "I have to leave at two for a meeting at four, I told you that earlier this week."

"Oh," she paused. "I just didn't realize you were leaving this early."

"Well, Mom, school starts tomorrow, and I have to be there for this meeting. Also, I have to get all my stuff ready so I really don't have a choice. I have to leave early," I said as I turned to go up the stairs for the 2nd load. I couldn't believe my parents had forgotten that today was Sunday.

"Allie," Mom said.

"What, Mom?" I replied halfway up the stairs.

"Allie... it's Saturday."

"No, it's not Mom. It's Sunday, and I have got to be at a meeting at 4. Check your calendar, Mom."

"No, Allie, today is Saturday."

"Mom. Listen. Yesterday I went to the movies with Amanda, Evelyn, Kevin and the gang and it was Friday...night...and then... oh, no. It's not Sunday is it?"

"Nope, it's Saturday."

At this point I began to laugh until I had to sit down on the steps as Sipsi looked on inquisitively. Dad came to the steps and the three of us had a nice hard laugh about the whole thing. However, I do have to say, the rest of the day was still a bit confusing. I had a whole extra day to spend at home, and I hadn't planned a thing to do. But I am all packed and ready to head to Auburn!

Miracles do happen sometimes... and I was early for heading back to Auburn... just one day too early. :)

  1. :) I love you Allie. This made my night. I'm totally the same way about freaking out and having to be on time.. I've gotten up on Saturdays and flipped because I was "late for school." It's fun to know I'm not the only one. I miss you!
